We have a Hearing!

This week we received a letter letting us know that we have a hearing on January 28th regarding out nomination the the National Register of Historic places! The National Register of historic places is the official list of the nation's historic places worthy of preservation!

Webster's nomination is based on its unique architectural features as well as its role in bussing and school integration in Pontiac in the early 1970s.

We are incredibly grateful for the hard work of all of our architects who have built our application including the great folks at Hopkins + Burns and CBI Designs. There are so many other people who have contributed historical background and evidence for us as well including Mike McGuinness at the Oakland History Center, Lee Industrial, the State Archives in Lansing, and many more.

While 90% of the research is straight forward, "what happened on this date," or "who was the designer for this element," there is also a good component of weird questions like, "Can we find a picture of this door?" or "When was the flagpole replaced?" On a project like this, even the minutia of history is important and everyone involved has taken that very seriously, which is why we are here today.

We'll keep you posted on our trip to Lansing!

A Tour with a Teacher: Mrs Jackie Dauw

I love walking through the building with people who went to school there. It is amazing what some people still remember from when they were in kindergarten, first and second grade, but it never fails.
